In Part 3 of our Gradebook Updates series, we focus on ways to customize the list of students that appears in your gradebook.

Click on the video player below to view it, or keep scrolling for written directions.

Customize the Student List in the Canvas Gradebook

In your course gradebook, hover your mouse over the “Student Name” heading so a 3-dot Options button appears. Click that button to bring up the student list options menu.

From here, you have several different options:

  • Sort by: change the order in which students are listed based on several different columns of criteria.
  • Display as: choose whether the first or last name of the students appears first (which affects how they are alphabetized)
  • Secondary info: determines what (if any) information appears under the students’ names (by default, it is their Section or Sections)
  • Show: show or hide students specifically with Inactive or Concluded Enrollments.

As always, please contact ID3 if you have specific questions or want suggestions for tools you could add to your courses!
