T2MTU: Sending Email with Delay Delivery
by Amanda Dills

Sending emails with a “delayed delivery” allows you to write and send an email now, but to ensure that it doesn’t arrive until a date and/or time that you specify. Examples of situations when this might be helpful could include:
- Scheduling an email to go out to your students for AFTER they have completed a quiz or received a grade.
- Sending email reminders to yourself for certain dates in the future.
- Sending emails at a time when you know your audience is most likely to be at their computer to read them.
To learn how to schedule emails in both Outlook and Gmail, watch the video below, or keep scrolling for written directions.
Scheduling Emails to be Received at a Future Date
In Outlook
Go to the Options menu, and then click “Delay Delivery” to schedule your email for a future date.

Your email will “hang out” in your Outlook Outbox until it’s scheduled delivery date (and you can make changes to it until that time).
In Gmail
Type up your email like normal. Instead of clicking the “Send” button, click the “Send Options” button adjacent to the regular Send button, and choose “Schedule Send.” Then follow the prompts on the screen that appears to schedule your email.

Your email will hang out in the “Scheduled” area of your Gmail menu, and you can make changes to it before it is sent as well.
