T2MTU: “CAP” AI Prompting Framework
by Amanda Dills

In today’s AI-focused Tuesday Tune-Up, I’m sharing a basic “one-size-fits-all” prompt framework you can use across many different generative AI tools: the CAP Framework.
Watch the video below, or keep scrolling for more information.
“CAP” AI Prompting
Use the following framework as a starting point for just about any AI tool prompt. A few examples of tools you could try include:
Step 1: CONTEXT
Give the AI some background information on what you’re working on and what your expectations are. Just like you might do when asking a question of your office neighbor down the hall, begin by giving some CONTEXT. This might look like this:
I am working on a meal plan for my family of 3.
Your context should answer the question of, “what’s the situation?” or “what are you working on?”
Step 2: ASK
What is the ACTION you need the AI to complete? Define it clearly and completely.
Can you please create a 5-day meal plan including lunch and dinner?
Your “Action” or “Ask” should let the AI know exactly what you need it to do.
Step 3: PARAMETERS
Finally, provide any details, examples, constraints, audience, or other parameters that are important to the completion of this task. In the case of our meal plan…
It needs to be kid-friendly and budget-conscious.
Conclusion
Once you’ve asked your question, you may, of course, need to provide feedback or restate it to improve AI’s response even further. But by using C.A.P. as a starting point, you’re much more likely to get quality results from your first request.
