As the 23-24 Academic Year is coming to a close, many instructors are looking at their course lists, requesting new sandbox courses to work in over the summer, and closing out old course shells.

In today’s Tuesday Tune Up, I’m going to show you how you can easily control which course “cards” you see on your Canvas Dashboard, and how to access courses whose cards are not currently visible.

Streamline Cards On Your Canvas Dashboard

Once you have a certain number of courses assigned to you in Canvas, the system will use a “favorites” designation to determine which courses show up on your main dashboard homepage. Here are a few ways you can customize which courses are your Canvas favorites:

To Remove a Course From the Dashboard:

  • Click the 3-dot “snowman” button in the upper right hand corner of the course card.
  • Click the “Move” tab.
  • Select “Unfavorite.”

To View All Your Canvas Courses (including Unfavorited ones)

  • Find and select the “Courses” icon on the left hand menu of Canvas.
  • Click “All Courses” at the top of the pop out window.
  • Notice the stars on the left hand side of the “All Courses” screen. Orange stars indicate a “favorited” course (that appears on your dashboard), and white stars indicate an “unfavorited” course (that does not appear).
  • Click a star to change it from orange to white, and vice versa.
  • Click the “Dashboard” icon on the left hand side to see the changes on your Canvas Dashboard/Homepage.
