Update Student Sections

If your student enrollments were updated AFTER the Colleague enrollments loaded into Canvas (generally 5 days before a course’s start date) and you do a lot of filtering or assigning in your course via Section, you may need to update the sections in which a student is enrolled.  (Unfortunately, Colleague will not un-enroll students from a section in Canvas, it can only add them.)

To do edit the Canvas sections in which a student is enrolled in your course:

  1. Go to the People tab of your course. You can see the sections in which a student or instructor is enrolled in the same line as their name.

2. Click on the 3-dot menu at the right hand side of the student’ entry on the “People” tab, and select “Edit Sections.”

3. You will see a pop-up window that shows any sections the student has been enrolled in.  Click the “X” to un-enroll the student from that section in Canvas.  Click “browse” to see all available sections and click on one to add the student.  Then click Update to save changes.

4. If you wish to change or add to the sections in your course, contact your ID3 specialist for assistance.
