Print a Quiz

*NOTE: In Canvas there are 2 “generations” of Quizzes that you can create for your students – New Quizzes, and what we call Classic Quizzes (original version). This printing process only works for New Quizzes, so if you want to Print a Classic Quiz, you will need to make a “New Quizzes” copy of that assessment for printing purposes. (See Part 2 for information on how to do this.)

Part 1: Printing a “New” Quiz

  • From the Quizzes area in your course, click on the 3-dot menu for the quiz you want to print, and select “Build.”

(If you do not see the Build option in the menu for your Quiz, then either you are trying to access the quiz you want to print from Modules instead of Quizzes, OR this is a Classic Quiz that you will need to copy/convert before printing. Keep reading for instructions on how to do this copy/conversion.)

  • Once you are on the Build screen, click the 3-dot icon in the upper right hand corner. You will see a menu that includes 2 printing options: “Print Key with Options” and “Print Blank Quiz.”
  • Select the option you want and then follow the prompts on your screen to select print size (I recommend medium), and then either print or save a PDF of your quiz.

Part 2: Make a “New Quiz” copy of a Classic Quiz for printing

If the quiz you want to print is in Classic Quiz form, you will need to make a “New Quizzes” copy in order to easily print it. Because there can be some calculation inconsistencies between Classic and New Quizzes, I wouldn’t recommend replacing your Classic quiz with the new one; instead, I’d suggest making a New Quizzes copy for printing purposes only and then deleting it.

To do this:

  • First, go to your Course Settings, and click on the “Feature Options” tab to make sure that New Quizzes is enabled. Toggle it on if it is not.
  • Then go back to your Quizzes tab and find the classic quiz that you want to convert and print. Click on its 3-dot menu, and select the “Migrate” Option.
  • This essentially copies a new version of the quiz into your course, so – like any other course copy process – it might take a while, and you will probably receive an email when it’s done. When it is ready, the migrated quiz will appear at the very bottom of your Quizzes group. Once it’s there, you don’t need to publish it; you can just follow the steps above for printing, and then delete the new quiz when you have printed it successfully if you wish.
