Helping Students with their Passwords
How do students find their Francis Tuttle network/Canvas password?
There are 3 basic ways:
- Instructors can create a Student Initial Network Password Report through InfoCentral. Instructions for this can be found here. This provides a list of passwords.
- Instructors can also create a Student Email Access and Credential Report. While the student email password and network/Canvas password are independent of each other (i.e., changing one does not change the other), they are initially both the same. So, a student’s initial email password will initially be the same as their Canvas password.
- A new student could also access Canvas for the first time by clicking on the “Student’s & Staff – Forgot Password?” link, following the instructions for resetting their network/Canvas password, then logging in to Canvas. In fact, when students are first added to Canvas, they receive an automated email (sent to the email they used when registering) notifying them that they have been enrolled in a Canvas course and giving them instructions for resetting their password to log in to Canvas.
How does a student reset their password?
- Someone who has forgotten their Canvas password or needs to reset it for any reason, click on the “Student’s & Staff – Forgot Password?” link on the Canvas login page.

2. This link directs you to a site where you can reset your password. Follow the directions on the page.
