Course is not showing up on Student Dashboard

For students to access a Canvas course:

  1. The course must be published
  2. Students must be enrolled in a current section of the course
  3. The current date must be within the start and end date range of the course.

Therefore, if a student is marked as inactive or concluded – or the course is unpublished – the students will not have access to the course.

(Click HERE for an article explaining how to publish or unpublish a Canvas course.)

Viewing Course and Section start/end dates

Courses and their sections both have start/end dates that control student access.  At Francis Tuttle, we focus on the section dates.  While the course dates can make a difference, we usually leave the course end date open.

You can see the dates for a course under Settings for that course.  (You might need to scroll down the page.)

To see the start/end dates for a section, select the Sections tab at the top of the course Settings page.

Click on any of the sections to see more info, including the start/end dates.  Teachers are not able to change section start/end dates (this is an admin function).
