Add an “Override” Column to the Gradebook
Sometimes you may need to add an override column to your Canvas Gradebook. This column will allow you to manually update the final grade for the course.
To do this:
Step 1: Go to Course Settings and select “Feature Previews”

Step 2: Turn on the “Final Grade Override” option by clicking on the red “x” on the right side of the line and then selecting “Enabled.”

Step 3: Go to the Grades area of your course, and click on the Grade Settings gear icon in the upper right hand corner.

Step 4: Click on the “Advanced” tab, and then check the “Allow final grade override” box, and then click Update. (NOTE: If you do not have the Settings option turned on — steps 1 & 2 — you will not see the “Advanced” tab in your gradebook settings.”

Step 5: This will create an “Override” column in your gradebook, where you can manually type updated Final Grades that will show to students (instead of the grades that are automatically calculated by Canvas).
