Creating a New Class in Remind

9/24/24

This week, Francis Tuttle started using Remind as one of our official forms of student/teacher communication. Because Remind is an official Francis Tuttle communication channel, you can use the Remind platform to text high school and adult students, without including parents on the conversation. (However, you are welcome to invite parents into your Remind “classrooms” if you’d like.)

Francis Tuttle teachers and students all received email invitations to Remind “classes” (that align with Prodigy enrollment sections for career training programs, and coursework sections for Academy courses). However, it is possible for teachers to create any standalone Remind courses they want or need. These standalone “classes” could be for a group of officers, a group of ALL your students, or anything in between.

Watch the video below for a walkthrough of creating a new Remind class and inviting students to that class:

Important Reminders When Setting Up Manual Remind “Classes”

  1. Make sure to select your specific Campus at Francis Tuttle when creating your class. (If not, your class will NOT meet the state’s communication requirements as an “official” school tool.)
  2. You do not HAVE TO include parents on your communications with students if they are in a Remind class linked to the Francis Tuttle district.
  3. You can add students to your course in many different ways, including:
    • Enrolling students manually.
    • Sharing a URL specific to the class.
    • Have students text your class code to phone number 81010.
  4. If you have created courses under a previous account, you can merge that with your newly created FT account. But you will still need to associate your merged account’s courses with the appropriate FT Campus. (It won’t happen automatically.)
