T2MTU: Bulk Edit Dates

February 1, 2022

A lot of students really like when assignments in Canvas are attached to a due date – it causes them to show up on a Calendar view or the homepage To-Do List, and can prompt student notifications.

However, dates in Canvas can become problematic for instructors who use them, especially when copying content from one term to another. Luckily, there is a hidden feature in Canvas that makes updating all of your dates at once a snap!

In this week’s Tuesday 2-Minute Tune Up video, I’ll show you how to bulk-update the Assignment dates in your Canvas course.

Click on the video below, or keep scrolling for written directions (AND this week’s Contest Entry form)!

Bulk-Editing Dates in a Canvas Course

  • Go to Assignments. Click on the 3-dot menu button in the upper right hand corner of the page, and select “Edit Assignment Dates.”
  • On this screen, you can edit specific assignment dates individually (make sure to hit SAVE to keep any changes).
  • You can also use the checkboxes to edit multiple dates at once. Simply check all the boxes for the dates you wish to change. (Use the “header” box to select all dates.) Then click “Batch Edit.”
  • This will bring up a pop-up menu where you can choose to “Remove Dates” altogether, or “Shift Dates” forward by a number that you specify. Click OK to apply your changes, and make sure to click SAVE to make your updates permanent.
